BuildingMy choise of wood type was birch. I wanted the case to last, and there are few wood species harder than the Finnish birch. Fortunately we had a lot of birch trees just outside the house. Cutting and sawing the tree is not included in this article. ![]() Most of the boards were made from smaller pieces by gluing them together. ![]() The boards being dried on the oven. The little paper in between is actually my complete plans for the project. After drying, gluing and planing the boards, it was time to put the whole lot together. The walls of the case are 2cm thick, so this should provide good soundproofing. It makes it heavy though. We're still missing the sides here. ![]() Gluing the pieces together. To lighten up the case I decided to build the sides from plywood framed with laths. ![]() Plywood sides. Now for what's inside the sides. For soundproofing I used some plastic carpet. I actually don't know what the aluminum foil is for, shielding for magnetic fields perhaps? ![]() Side innards. The sides open like this.
