The main server of Minecraft is going unstable. Therefore, Notch had to halt most server procedures, such as game purchasing, and you can play Minecraft for free for a limited time. http://www.minecraft.net

An adventure game that sorta remninds me of Beneath a Steal Sky and Lure of the Temptress' bizarre scandinavian cousin.

It was made with Flash, you can play the demo though the price for the full version might be a little steep ($20, game isn't all that long really) but it does work on Windows, linux and Mac and you would be supporting an indie developer, which isn't a bad thing is it??

Charming game, none the less.

It's charming indeed. Even when thinking it's a commercial Flash game. Still, it wouldn't be my kind of choice.

I bought Recettear. It's AWESOME.
Like, EPICLY AWESOME.

Basically, you run an item shop. You put items on display, then people come, and you haggle prices. If you fuck up, the customer goes away, if not, the item does (together with the customer. And you have moar money).
But you have to get your stuff from somewhere. So... either buy it from the Merchant's Guild, or go hunting yourself. Actually, no. Befriend an adventurer and sent HIM to go hunting for items. Luckily, you control him, though. Finding stuff yourself is more lucrative, as you don't pay anything for it (except *precious* time).

As the game progresses, new elements are introduced. So after some time, people will start to make advance orders, or ask for a general type of item instead of a specific one ("Gimme a weapon!" - "How 'bout this Epic Killall of Doom +20?" - "Yeah, great! How much?" - "Oh, a measly 500.000.000 pix." - "Fuck you. I'm off."). A child, when asking for food, will NOT have enough money to buy a 2.300 pix bowl of stuff, and will rather go for 300 pix candies (yes, pix is the currency).

There's also some story, it's almost part visual novel, really.

And it's fun.
And relatively cheap.

...I'm gonna go play it some more now.

Now Valve did it: New items, item kits that give bonuses when all of them are worn, trading and an item shop full of goodies in the Mann-conomy Update. Also, buy the game for half the price 'til monday.

In one day of playing the game, I traded a new hat and a new item, found 2 new items, and also found a Mann Co. Supply box. Apparently I need a key to open it.

Oh, and it started awesomely. I generate my first world... everything covered in snow. I make a few steps towards the nearest mountains, only to discover a frikken stream of lava running down one of them. Currently, the entrance to my home-cave requires a lengthy stair-trek through courtains of lava. Awesome

Also, this game is fucking scary.

Sounds one hell of a lot like Wurm, only with shittier graphics and a better marketing scheme

Might give it a go, have to buy paint for my doors but should be able to fork out enough in a fortnight or so especially with how the aussie dollar is doing at the moment.

Server for monkkonen members would be great, though.

So I believe a humorous situation report is in order:

Day oh what the eff I have no idea:
Its been forever since that waterfall dragged me down into this cave. Ive since been jamming torches into every nook and cranny I could find, but there seems to be no natural way back up that doesnt involve swimming against gravity. I managed to scrape together one caveman-style pick, but I have no idea which direction to dig to get anywhere near the surface. My patented health-o-meter is showing only half a heart left, my armor is falling apart, the way back to the workbench I crafted together is blocked by a skeleton archer horde, and is THAT A CREEPE-

On a less fail-at-writing note, Ive checked out Autocraft, and apparently Ive explored about one FOURTH of the ONE cave cluster. Wow. Im still finding exits back to the surface about twenty steps from my spawnpoint, too.

I had managed to run a server in my desktop before. It was interesting, but not complete. At least you can build with friends in a survival kind of way.
Also, sometimes even the compass can help you on the way out of a cave. It's usually more convenient to have your base near the spawn point.

I didn't play it for very long yet, but it seems massively solid. And it's not a side vs. side balanced game like most RTS' (like Starcraft) - you versus a vastly overpowered enemy. The goal is not to build an empire, but to survive (and eventually drive off the occupant).

At the beginning, you're mostly being ignored, with occasional waves of attackers; the more you conquer, the stronger you get, the more effort the AI (story: AI became evil; killed off people; people fight back - there's also no vs. multiplayer, only co-op, which fits thematically) spends on eliminating you.

It definately plays more variedly than SoaSE, and a lot more strategically; I think *you* might like it, and unless you've got very little time (they say an average game lasts roughly 8-12 hours) you should probably grab the demo. And the game is criminally cheap.

Common complaints include randomness; Out of the roughly 30 ship types, during one campaign, you will unlock only up to five random ones (plus one chosen at start, plus the three basic ones). The philosophy behind that choice convinced me, though; Like a real life officer, you can't really be picky about your troops when you're on the verge of destruction. And you unlock these extra ship types by conquering enemy advanced science labs, so the randomness is justified.

Then, research is the only limited resource - 3.000 points per planet (roughly 1-3 low-level techs), of which there are 80 on the standard map. Other than that there's the standard metal and crystal (pretty much like SoaSE - collected from special nodes), and energy (can be built anywhere, but a high concentration of generators decrease efficiency). Energy can't be stored.

Then, the "population cap" is not a global one, but per ship type; You can have, say, 300 fighters, 300 Tier II fighters, and 300 Tier III fighters. This is to force you to use everything you have - because 300 additional tier I ships are always useful, even if they are vastly outdated. Also an interesting choice that sets the game apart from others. In addition, it makes conquering the advanced labs VERY important, as it not only makes your army more diversed, but increases it's size.

There's a lot of things like this; The only way to really get a feel for how it is is to play it yourself. :>

I'd recommend to start playing WITHOUT either expansion, though. There's enough things you need to grasp when first playing even without all the extra awesomeness.
