Another idea for an animal is a Turtle. it would also be useful in getting to smaller islands etc.
Anyone remember playing "Fairy Tale Adventure" (Microillusions 1987), riding the Turtle was one of the Easter Eggs.

Oh well, you can make him whatever powerful you see fit. IMHO it's not so overpowered at all...
@EDIT> Or if you're so balance overzealous, you can make an ether puddle. An Easter egg just to make LOLs

Yeees, ether puddles!  That might be even turned into a chain of easter egg (container, puddle, food generator! ). The resulting ration wouldn't be edible, though. Just a commemorative item ;P
