What fuels my gamemaking is the continued feedback from people, the knowledge that there are people out there playing the game. That's why I've never made a simple game, I've always aimed for a very good one.
So if you're not looking for a huge audience for your game, and you're only doing it to learn programming, it's a good plan. On the other hand, if you are looking for quick success and entry into the gamemaking hallf of fame, aim higher.
